I created The Story Edge to do two things. To add value and to be valued. They might sound the same, but there’s a distinction to be made.
Adding Value means making a difference to the people and organisations I serve. Definitions of value will vary. But for me, every problem can be tackled by better communication. But the real value I add is to give you the ability to attract the right clients and win more business.
Being Valued means the people I work with value and trust me. They value my input, support, and recommendations. And, they welcome the fact that I challenge them. Being valued means my clients see me as an extended part of their team.
The communication and storytelling principles I coach can be used by anyone. And, as much as I’d like to help everyone, I know that’s a tall order. I’ve made the decision to focus on three groups where I can make the biggest impact.

We’re shaped by the stories we’ve experienced. I’m no different. From school holidays spent washing cars at my Dad’s garage, to my last week as a Senior Manager at D.C. Thomson. Every stop on my professional journey has taught me something valuable. It’s these experiences that give me the confidence and ability to deliver for my clients.
The Story Edge is the name of my company. And, it’s also a belief.
If you use stories to communicate you can create an Edge for your organisation. You can stand out. You can outshine your competitors by communicating in the most natural way. You can educate, entertain and persuade by treating stories, as your ultimate communications asset.
Storytelling is ‘my thing’ but it’s not my ONLY thing. I’d be doing my clients a disservice if I didn’t give them everything I had. And that means supporting every aspect of how they communicate. That means using all of my knowledge and experience.
As well as helping you tell killer stories, I can help you in four key areas.
Running a business is hard. Anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong. Trust me. But it’s made much easier by having the support of this incredible posse. I’ll go further, I couldn’t do this without them. Gill, Matthew, Lewis and Jamie are just as big a part of The Story Edge as I am.
They’ve put up with a lot since I launched the business in February 2015. They’ve experienced the highs and the lows. They’ve seen me elated and deflated. And, it’s fair to say they’ve made some sacrifices along the way.
I do what I do to make them proud.
